RR eliminated from IPL 2025, MI continue winning streak

Rajasthan Royals' 2025 IPL campaign came to a meek conclusion on Thursday night as they succumbed to a big defeat at the hands of Mumbai Indians. The MI juggernaut rampaged through the hosts as they were thoroughly outplayed by the five-time IPL champions. Batting first, Mumbai scored 217/2, as Rohit Sharma and Ryan Ricketon both got fifties, while Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav scored an identical unbeaten 48. In response, Rajasthan lost five wickets within the powerplay as their chase never got going. Jasprit Bumrah picked up a couple of wickets, while Boult and Karn Sharma got three-fers to give Mumbai a 100-run win, thus putting an end to RR's thin playoff qualification hopes.

'Good, but not good enough' campaign for Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals became the second team to be eliminated from the race for the playoffs in the 2025 IPL, after Chennai Super Kings. They have had a sputtering campaign in 2025, summed up by the fact that they have been good, but not quite good enough. Royals helped unearth the teen sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, and Jofra Archer found his mojo once again this season, but that wasn't quite enough to help Rajasthan win matches on a consistent basis.

Injuries galore in the IPL

Sandeep Sharma became the latest casualty of the 2025 IPL as he was ruled out for the season due to a finger injury. Earlier in the day, Glenn Maxwell was ruled out due to a finger fracture, putting an end to what has been a woeful campaign for the Australian all-rounder. Apart from these two, Mumbai Indians wrist spinner Vignesh Puttur has also fallen prey to an injury, and will play no further part in IPL 2025. Punjab's domestic spinner Raghu Sharma has been roped in as his replacement. PBKS and RR are yet to announce their injury replacements.

What's next in store?

Gujarat Titans return back to Ahmedabadwhere they face Sunrisers Hyderabad today evening in the IPL. The 2022 champions faced a drubbing at the hands of RR last time around, but would hope to make the most of home advantage to reignite their race for the playoffs. Their opponents tonight are Sunrisers Hyderabad, who are pretty much in must win territory if they are to qualify for the playoffs. SRH are yet to win at the Narendra Modi Stadium, having lost there twice so far. Will today prove to be any different?
