Sri Lanka lost their openers Dimuth Karunaratne and Oshada Fernando in the morning session of the opening Test in Chattogram. Opting to bat first on a good looking surface, Sri Lanka appeared to begin on a positive note when the returning Oshada hit Khaled Ahmed for back-to-back boundaries in just the second over.

The early assistance for Khaled and Shoriful Islam got Bangladesh excited as the hosts took a review as early as in the fifth over. However, with the ball pitching outside leg, they ended up losing the review. But the disappointment was short-lived as Nayeem struck in his very first over as Mominul Haque opted to bring on the offspinner very early.

Karunaratne misjudged an arm ball that came in quickly to first flick his pad before he made contact with the bat. While he immediately walked off, Oshada literally forced his skipper to challenge the call which unfortunately didn't go in his favour. The wicket didn't deter Oshada as he took on Taijul Islam in his first over to fetch the first six of the game.

Looking to make an impression on his comeback, Oshada appeared very determined as he milked the bowling attack alongside Kusal Mendis to keep Bangladesh at bay. But against the run of play, Bangladesh struck again. Nayeem caused the damage again as he found the outside edge of Oshada, who strangely opted to challenge the decision only for the replays to confirm the spike on ultra edge. Just minutes before lunch, the hosts wasted another review when they opted to challenge a call against Angelo Mathews but with the impact being just outside off, the veteran survived.

Brief scores: Sri Lanka 73/2 (Oshada Fernando 36; Nayeem Hasan 2-28) vs Bangladesh
