Olympic Skier Shows Off Captain America Inspired Suit
Olympic Gold medalist ski racer Lindsey Vonn is taking to Twitter to show off her new Captain America-inspired suit.
Captain America has been inhabiting the pages of the comic books for decades now but outside the loyal print readers, the super soldier did not have that much of a fan base. Instead of being one of Marvel’s premiere superhero like Spider-Man and the X-Men, he was more of a B-lister who play supporting parts in bigger comics events. But much like his fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe pioneers Iron Man and Thor, his introduction to the big screen via the Marvel Studios-produced movies elevated his status in terms of fan-affinity. That mainstream fame also includes the character being associated with Chris Evans, the actor who has been playing the role for several years now.
Vonn’s Twitter account shared a photo of her having fun on the snowy slopes while wearing a suit that is designed to mimic Captain America’s iconic uniform.

The version she can be seen wearing is seen wearing derives its inspiration from the original old school super soldier suit that we have seen him don during his days of being a war hero during World War II in the 1940s. Over the years, the garb has gone through various iteration but the overall aesthetic of it remains the same.

This isn’t the first time that Vonn sported some superhero-inspired uniform. Back in the fall, she prided herself on wearing a Captain Marvel speed suit before going on a trip to Chile. Earlier that year, the whole U.S. Ski Team donned similar garbs. In general, sports and comics have had collaborations in the past which makes the skier’s attire nothing out of the ordinary. For instance, Valiant Entertainment collaborated with the US Luge Team for the 2012 Sochi Winter Olympics, while NASCAR struck a similar deal with DC Comics in 2014 resulting to Dale Earnhardt Jr. driving a Superman-inspired car.
Hopefully this trend continues and we get to see more athletes taking on comic book inspiration for their outfits. With The Flash teasing “extreme speed skating” as inspiration for his Justice League costume, there’s already another winter sport just waiting for a comic-book partnership.
