The deadline for underclassmen to declare for the 2018 NFL Draft passed on Monday, and the verdict is in for FBS schools heading into 2018.

Clemson is, by far, the biggest winner: Defensive linemen Christian Wilkins, Clelin Ferrell, Kendall Joseph and Austin Bryant all made the decision to bypass the NFL Draft, meaning the Tigers' loaded defensive line remains the same for next season. Remember, the three-time defending ACC champions have reached the College Football Playoff each of the last three seasons with the help of this unit. It's great news for Dabo Swinney, and a huge storyline for the offseason.

Other teams didn't make out quite as well as Clemson — and some teams, well, suffered more losses then they would prefer.
With that in mind, Sporting News takes a look at the biggest winners and losers from the NFL Draft deadline.

Winner: Clemson

How big is it for Wilkins, Ferrell, Joseph and Bryant to stay in school? This keeps that loaded defensive line in tact around Dexter Lawrence. Those five combined for 25.5 sacks and 50 tackles for loss in 2017. It's conceivable that all four could be first-round picks in 2019.
Christian Wilkins returning for senior year. Clemson will have 3 returning first team All Americans and 4 All ACC players on 2018 defensive front.

The Tigers also bring in five-star defensive end Xavier Thomas — the No. 1 defensive end and No. 3 overall player in the Class of 2018 — to the mix. It's clear this group wants one more ride after its Sugar Bowl loss to Alabama.

Loser: Florida State

The Seminoles had one of the most talented rosters in the FBS in 2017, but several key pieces won't be there for Willie Taggart's first season. Two of FSU's leading receivers in Auden Tate and Ryan Izzo are gone. The defense loses defensive ends Josh Sweat Jalen Wilkerson and safety Derwin James. Still, none of these departures is shocking, and that's part of the deal when bringing in a new coach.

Winner: Ohio State

The Buckeyes traditionally take heavy losses to the NFL Draft each year, and cornerback Denzel Ward, defensive end Sam Hubbard and linebacker Jerome Baker were expected departures. Ohio State, however, kept receivers Parris Campbell, Johnnie Dixon and Terry McLaurin and defensive tackle Dre'Mont Jones. That's a better turnout than expected in Columbus, and whoever takes over at quarterback will be a lot more comfortable with that.

Loser: Auburn

Jarrett Stidham, meanwhile, will need Kam Martin to stand up in the running game with departures from running backs Kerryon Johnson and Kamryn Pettway, who combined for 1,696 rushing yards and 24 rushing touchdowns in 2017. The defense also loses defensive linemen Carlton Davis and Jeff Holland, who led the team with 9.5 sacks in 2017. The Tigers need to see a lot of maturation before road games at Georgia and Alabama next season.

Winner: Stanford

Heisman finalist Bryce Love returned to school, which is huge for the Cardinal, considering he rushed for 2,118 yards in 2017. He'll be the front-runner for the award this season, and should help get the Cardinal back in the mix for another Pac-12 North title. That also eases the losses of Harrison Phillips and Justin Reid on defense.

Loser: Texas

Tom Herman led the Longhorns to a bowl victory in his first season, but the Longhorns lost several key players to the NFL Draft, including All-American tackler Connor Williams on offense and punter Michael Dickson. The defense loses Malik Jefferson, DeShon Elliott and Holton Hill. Can Herman's big-time recruiting class, loaded with in-state talent, offset those losses?
Winner: Washington

The Huskies have a 22-5 over the last two years, and the good news for Chris Petersen is quarterback Jake Browning and star running back Myles Gaskin opted to return to school. That will put Washington at the top of the Pac-12 in most preseason projections heading into a monster opener against Auburn in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff. Defensive tackle Vita Vea left early, but the Huskies should feel good heading into 2018.

Loser: USC

The Trojans lost 24-7 to Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl Classic, which prompted questions on whether Sam Darnold was ready for the NFL. He left anyway, with running back Ronald Jones II, receiver Deontay Burnett and defensive lineman Rasheem Green following him. That leaves some serious holes to fill for Clay Helton, who must now compete with UCLA's Chip Kelly on the recruiting trail.

Win some, lose some: Penn State

The Nittany Lions lost superstar running back Saquon Barkley to the NFL Draft, but Trace McSorley decided to stay in school. That's huge because Penn State — which has a 22-5 record over the last two seasons — now has the Big Ten's best quarterback. The Nittany Lions also bring in a top-five recruiting class with new playmakers, too. The offense must adjust without offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead, but McSorley is a great player to build around.

Win some, lose some: Alabama

Five Alabama players declared early, including running back Bo Scarbrough and receiver Calvin Ridley on offense and Minkah Fitzpatrick, Ronnie Harrison and Da'Ron Payne on defense. It's business as usual for the Crimson Tide at this point of the season, but the Tide have the added difficulty of replacing its offensive and defensive coordinators. Still, Damien Harris opted to return to school, and Nick Saban has more than enough talent to fill in. Plus, the NFL Draft will serve as yet another infomercial for the program. It's all part of "The Process.
