Peter Handscomb's unbeaten 148 earned Victoria a draw against South Australia in Adelaide on the final day that was otherwise dominated by a fresh concussion blow to their opener Will Pucovski.

Without Pucovski, who was subbed after fielding for just three balls, Victoria were reduced to 49 for 3, of which Brendan Doggett claimed two. However, Handscomb dropped anchor at one end and forged two crucial stands to deny South Australia a final-day win despite Doggett's four-fer. He added 79 runs for the fourth-wicket partnership with Matthew Short to resurrect their second innings.

Victoria again had a slip up when they lost both Short and Travis Dean, Pucovski's concussion substitute, in quick succession with 30 overs still left in the day. But Handscomb joined hands with wicketkeeper Sam Harper to forge a 75-run partnership that again stabilised the innings. Harper became Doggett's fourth victim in the final hour but Handscomb had done enough to ensure against a defeat, even though he was stranded two shot of a deserving 150.

Earlier in the day, Scott Boland picked up two quick wickets to wrap up South Australia's second innings on 213, with an addition of just 10 runs to their overnight score of 203/7.

Brief scores: South Australia 366 (Daniel Drew 130, Jake Weatherald 122; Mitchell Perry 4-57, Scott Boland 4-61) & 213 (Henry Hunt 57; Will Sutherland 3-42, Jon Holland 3-55, Brendan Doggett 3-72) drew with Victoria 264 (Nic Maddinson 82, Marcus Harris 58, Will Pucovski 54; Nathan McAdrew 3-60) & 236/6 (Peter Handscomb 148*; Brendan Doggett 4-51).
