Reduced to ten men, Wenger's decision to hook Olivier Giroud for a defender has not gone down well

Arsene Wenger's decision to hook Olivier Giroud following Per Mertesacker's red card against Chelsea has not sat well with the Arsenal fans, who booed loudly as the Frenchman left the pitch.

Mertesacker was shown a straight red after scything down Diego Costa in the 18th minute, who was sent clear by Willian's through pass.

Wenger then opted to bring on Gabriel Paulista to shore things up at the back, but the decision to to replace their main striker sparked the ire of the Emirates faithful.

Just minutes after the incident, Branislav Ivanovic's cross was met by Diego Costa at the front post, who finished first time to open the scoring in a hugely exciting clash.

Giroud has now gone nine games without a goal against Chelsea, while Arsenal have never won a Premier League match against the Blues after being reduced to 10 men.
