The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has welcomed the arrest of suspects allegedly involved in fixing IPL games but maintained that it had no information if there was any corruption in the 2019 IPL matches which, according to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), were under probe.
"We have had no information about any corrupt activity and if the CBI comes into picture, it is good for us. The truth will come out," a BCCI member, in knowledge of the development, said after the news emerged that the CBI booked seven suspected punters in connection with two separate cases related to alleged fixing of the 2019 edition of the league. The CBI said it had got the lead from a source in Pakistan.
Reports said the investigating agency has started a country-wide probe and searched premises in Delhi, Hyderabad, Jaipur and Jodhpur. The agency has received inputs that a network of individuals involved in cricket betting is influencing the outcome of the IPL matches. It has received inputs from Pakistan too and filed the FIRs.
The names of those arrested are Dileep Kumar (in Delhi), Gurram Vasu, Gurram Satish (in Hyderabad), Sajjan Singh, Prabhu Lal Meena, Ram Avtar and Amit Kumar Sharma (from Rajasthan). The racket allegedly operating from Rajasthan has been continuing since 2010. At least one group of bookies was receiving assistance from a Pakistani, identified as Waqas Malik.
The networks operating on the basis of inputs from Pakistan were also cheating the public by 'inducing them for betting,' the CBI FIR said. The racketeers have bank accounts (mule accounts) using fake identities and know the customers KYC details through unknown bank officials, it has been revealed.
