The modular-based LG G5 was not what you would call a success for LG, although the device has found some interest among those who don't mind changing batteries every time the phone's power tank reads empty. And since the device is two and a half years old, finding cheap replacement batteries for the device isn't hard to do. The former flagship launched with Android 6.0 Marshmallow installed, and received an update to Android 7.0 Nougat. Earlier this month, the LG G5 was finally updated to Android 8.0 Oreo in South Korea.

Now, the update is slowly working its way to the U.S. On September 12th, customers of Canadian carrier Rogers with the LG G5 should start receiving Android 8.0. Historically, updates offered by Canadian carriers take place not too long before U.S. carriers start pushing out the same files. So if you own a U.S. carrier branded LG G5, keep your eyes peeled for the notification telling you that Android 8.0 Oreo has arrived on your handset.

Including Android 8.0, the LG G5 will have been updated twice. We wouldn't count on the phone receiving Android 9.0 Pie, and any future updates after this one will probably be limited to the monthly security patches.
