Google recently announced that Featured Snippets in Search results would get relevant images to back up the queries. Today, the company went a step ahead by adding relevant in-line video answers for some questions. Particularly, queries concerning celebrities will include queries answered by the celebs themselves in the form of in-line videos.

For example, queries like “How many languages does Priyanka Chopra speak?” or “Can Will Ferrell really play the drums?” will now show you a video player at the top of the result. Google dubs these “selfie-style videos” as being “uniquely personal, authentic and delightful touch.” The company is currently piloting the feature with actors, personalities, and athletes. It will be adding more people in the future.

In a blog post, Google mentions the names of the celebrities that have participated for the feature:

"We’re piloting this feature on mobile with answers from Priyanka Chopra, Will Ferrell, Tracee Ellis Ross, Gina Rodriguez, Kenan Thompson, Allison Williams, Nick Jonas, Mark Wahlberg, James Franco, Seth MacFarlane, Jonathan Yeo and Dominique Ansel. Whether you’re wondering what Gina Rodriguez’s pet peeve is, what movie changed Nick Jonas’ life, or want Kenan Thompson’s input on what makes something funny, these self-recorded videos share their perspectives and answers to some of your most-asked questions."

Verified search results from direct source

When you hit the Google search with queries related to celebs, in the top right corner, you will see a card that will feature the celeb’s name, avatar, and a verifying tick mark. This new category of search results is named as “Answered on Google” and questions will also show tags like Most asked on Google, Trending, and Google Fan.

Built-in Player for videos

Tapping on the video launches a built-in player with animation that takes over the full screen on the mobile web. While in the Google app, it keeps the new bottom bar. A carousel of cards is placed at the bottom that re-mentions the question and can be swiped for playing more answers from the same celeb.

Google also notes that these are results are “coming directly from the source.” We can expect the company to add more such results for other searches, not just limited to queries about celebs.
