The iPhone 6s introduced a unique new feature called 3D Touch when it was announced back in September. Unlike the Apple Watch’s Force Touch, 3D Touch is infinitely variable, allowing you to control apps with various touch pressures while Force Touch only detects two levels of force. In short, 3D Touch is more sensitive and quicker than Force Touch.

But finding apps that support the new feature is a bit difficult at the moment as many apps haven't been updated to support 3D Touch. Apple has a dedicated section in its App Store for 3D Touch apps but it’s nothing more than a list. So which apps are the best? Read on to find out which apps show the potential of 3D Touch.

Badland 2 ($4.99)

The follow up to the original Badland game is more fun than ever on the iPhone. Players can now control their characters to go left or right, adding a new dimension of gameplay. Badland 2 also supports 3D Touch so you can keep your thumb on the screen to keep the critters flying. Press harder and they’ll fly higher or roll faster. It’s a challenging game and implements 3D Touch well.

Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories ($6.99)

Often overlooked in the Grand Theft Auto series, Liberty City Stories is a full port for iOS, integrating 3D Touch for steering controls. It feels intuitive and prevents cars from feeling twitchy. It’s a bummer the brakes and accelerator don’t take advantage of 3D Touch.

Warhammer 40,000: Freeblade (Free)

Apple showed off Warhammer 40,000 Freeblade during the reveal event for the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus and for good reason. The game looks great and its implementation of 3D Touch is intuitive. The gameplay is typical free-to-play shooter but is fun in short sessions. Press harder to activate your secondary weapons like rockets.

AG Drive ($3.99)

If racing games are more of your thing, check out AG Drive. Reminiscent of F-Zero, this racing game lets you pilot vehicles on crazy tracks. Press harder to go faster, but you’ll have to remember to let off before tight corners. It’s like playing slot cars on your phone.

Flickr (Free)

Flickr for iOS has a great implementation of 3D Touch, even better than Apple’s Photos app. Deep press on a thumbnail to get a preview on it and slide left and right to scrub through the rest of the photos. This is a great way to quickly find a photo you’re looking for. You can still “pop” a photo preview to full screen by pressing even harder.

Instagram (Free)

Instagram was one of the first apps to be updated with 3D Touch and it works well. Like Flickr, you can peek and pop into photos from their thumbnails. From the home screen, you can quickly access shortcuts like search, direct messages, and posting a new photo.

Shazam (Free)

If you find yourself wondering what song is playing while you’re out and about, Shazam is great. Unless you miss the song because it took so long to open up Shazam. 3D Touch helps you quickly search for songs with a 3D Touch shortcut from the home screen that immediately launches Shazam into listening mode

Evernote (Free)

If you take a lot of notes and need to access them fast, the updated Evernote will come in handy. 3D Touch the Evernote app icon from the home screen to get shortcuts to create a new note, take a photo, set a reminder, or search. You can also preview URLs by 3D Touching them so you don’t need to jump between your browser and Evernote.

Citymapper (Free)

Citymapper is a killer public transportation app for select cities. If you live in a supported city like San Francisco or New York, definitely check it out. From the home screen, 3D Touch the Citymapper app to get quick access for nearby public transport stops and directions home.

Pinterest (Free)

Like other photo-heavy applications in this list, Pinterest lets you peek images from their thumbnails and pop into their full size with a harder press. Pinterest has also integrated a radial menu that lets you pin, like, and share with a swipe. It’s super intuitive and heavy Pinterest users will love the 3D Touch features.

Paper by FiftyThree (Free)

Popular sketching app Paper by FiftyThree now supports 3D Touch. Having pressure sensitivity for sketching and painting is immensely helpful and works just how you would imagine. It won’t be a replacement for the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, but it’s great for sketching on the go with your finger or stylus.

Pixelmator ($4.99)

Like Paper by FiftyThree, Pixelmator will detect pressure and will change the thickness and texture for brush strokes and other mediums. The app also supports peeking and popping into images from the gallery. You’ll also be able to access sharing options with a harder press.

WhatsApp (Free)

Popular chat app WhatsApp now also supports 3D Touch. From the conversation list, you can peek into specific convos without opening them. You’ll also be able to peek at URLs inside chats, which is super handy for quickly browsing links, locations, photos, and videos sent by your friends.

Workflow ($2.99)

Workflow for iOS
Workflow, the app for power users to automate their workflows, has been updated with 3D Touch features as well. Users will now be able to peek and pop into their workflows inside the app and access their workflows quickly from the home screen icon.
