Limit download speed to boost upload?

    Hi,

I came across the below article on bittorent strategy to boost ratio.
    http://wiki.seedboxes.cc/index.php/I...-_Seeding_tips

    Code:
Why when the torrent is completed, my seeding speed drops drastically ?
This is how the Bittorrent Protocol works. Torrent clients always prefer to give data to other client that get data from. It is like "Give me something to give you back". So leechers always prefer exchanging data with other leechers, and connect to seeders, only when needed. This is why when you complete a torrent, and essentially you become a seeder, the seeding speed drops, because you are not selected from leechers in priority. Many people prefer to limit their download speed, just to be in the downloading state for longer times, in order to seed back in higher speed that the download speed.
I wonder whether anyone here is also using this technique (limiting download rate in order to stay in 'Downloading' mode longer).
    Is it effective?

    Thanks.

I'm on a high speed home connection up to 100 Mb/s and i never do that.I also never cap my upload speed and i usually reach a 1/1 ratio fast enough whenever i'm using trackers located in countries near my area.If i really need to reach a 1/1 ratio on a certain torrent from a tracker which isn't in my near area, usually i stop all the other torrents and i leave that one running to reach the ratio requirements.I also noticed that in my case, utorrent runs way better when it runs minimized.

I used to run many many concurrent torrents and that is harmful for my ratio sometimes. For new torrents, I hardly can catch up with the others since so many other torrents are utilizing the resources at the same time. Now I set the limit to 30 and all look better.
So limiting the download speed may not be the correct way. It's better to limit the number of torrents running.
Btw, I just got a monster box from seedhost.eu and it's really awesome.

On the other hand, if ratio is a problem but you are able to seed for a couple of days (2-3 days) then you should consider using ratioless sites.Torrentshack, Bitleechers or nCore.Avoid using BTN, GFT or PTM, those guys are paranoid and you'll end up banned sonner or later.
