Zayn Malik is not returning to One Direction.

The 22-year-old singer stunned fans when he announced he was quitting the boyband back in March.

However, over the weekend, fans began speculating that Zayn's departure from the group may have been short-lived.

These rumours were started by fans reading into various 'signs' they believed were hinting at Zayn's comeback.

These indicators were Zayn's official bio going back onto the official One Direction website, and his tweet announcing his departure being deleted from his social network page.

The speculation went from non existent to viral in a matter of hours, causing a spokesperson for the band's record label Columbia to come forward and set the record straight.

"I can confirm that Zayn is not returning to the band," said Mike Navarra told USA Today via email.

In a recent interview, the remaining 1D members ' Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan ' admitted they were left angry by Zayn's decision to leave the band.

Zayn later explained the group didn't "feel real" to him anymore, which is something his bandmate Liam believes was obvious to everyone.

"At first we were a little bit angry, we were surprised. I think we all knew the general vibe that Zayn was feeling. You could sort of tell. And from the outside people could tell," he told talk show host James Corden. "There's certain parts of this job Zayn loved and there's certain parts that he didn't. And if you don't like your job you've gotta follow your heart sometimes and go where you need to go. we were angry at first and then it was just more disappointed. We wish him the best of luck with whatever he gets up to. There's no hard feelings."
