"If we had continued people would undoubtedly have been seriously injured."

The Vaccines were forced to shelve a show in Blackburn last night, after the safety barrier kept collapsing during their performance.

The ‘Combat Sports’ rockers were mid-way through their gig at the King Georges Hall when the decision was taken to axe the performance as a precaution.

Although no one was injured, the band later revealed how the collapsing barrier was at risk of comprising the safety of their fans.

“Blackburn, feeling as empty and as angry as I’m sure all of you are right now,” the band wrote on Twitter.

“The decision to stop the show was not ours, but the safety barrier in the venue kept collapsing and if we had continued people would undoubtedly have been seriously injured.”

Vowing to return, the band wrote: “This fucking sucks. Pls hold onto tickets. We know u work hard to pay for them. We will reschedule the show and finish what we started asap.”

One fan wrote on Twitter: “Vaccines cancelled midway through in what could be the most classic Blackburn thing I’ve witnessed.”

“As if the vaccines gig has been cancelled half way through cos of safety issue loooool blackburn’s a joke,” said another.

Photos posted on Twitter also appear to show fans standing in the venue after the decision was taken to pull the show.

The venue is yet to respond but NME has contacted them for comment.

Meanwhile, The Vaccines will continue their tour at Newcastle’s O2 Academy tonight, before heading to Motherwell’s Concert Hall & Theatre tomorrow.

The tour will eventually wrap up with two dates at London’s Roundhouse on February 8&9.
