The musician died in 2012, aged 47

A new interactive tribute to Beastie Boys‘ Adam Yauch has launched.

The musician, who was one of the founding members of the New York hip-hop group, died in 2012 after a three-year battle with cancer. He was 47 years old.

Now, ‘The House That Yauch Built‘ honours his career and legacy as a musician, as well as his other cinematic and philanthropic endeavours. Yauch also founded the film production company Oscilloscope Laboratories, directed films and music videos, and founded Milarepa, a non-profit that worked towards Tibetan independence.

Oscilloscope launched ‘The House That Yauch Built’ today (August 2) in collaboration with Red Bull Music Academy and MediaMonks. The interactive site is billed as a “digital journey that will allow fans to explore every nook and cranny of the historic space” that was, until recently, occupied by the production company at Canal Street Studio.

The official description continues: “From the vintage Neve soundboard to O-Scope’s visual identities, MTV Moonmen, and other desiderata, viewers will be able to initiate video, photo, audio, and text-based hotspots that work to bridge the entire experience together.”

‘The House That Yauch Built’ will include previously unseen footage, including Seth Rogen discussing the Beastie Boys’ influence and Yauch’s bandmate Mike D talking about going back to work in the aftermath of 9/11.

Meanwhile, earlier this year, a new book about the Beastie Boys was announced. The memoir, titled Beastie Boys Book, will feature contributions from Amy Poehler, Colson Whitehead, Spike Jonze, Wes Anderson, Luc Sante and more. It will be published on October 30, 2018.
