Track will feature on the forthcoming BBC sessions

R.E.M. have shared an unreleased version of ‘E-Bow The Letter’ featuring Radiohead‘s Thom Yorke.

The track originally featured Patti Smith on the band’s 1996 album New Adventures In Hi-Fi, but they recorded a live version of the track with Yorke at London’s St. James Church on September 15, 2004. You can listen to the collaboration below.

The new box set ‘R.E.M. At The BBC‘ , which is due for release on October 19 and will feature the new version of the song, spans over 30 years and will include eight CDs, a DVD, a John Peel Session (1998), Drivetime and Mark and Lard appearances (2003) together with a live performance in Radio 1’s Live Lounge (2008).

Earlier, this month R.E.M. shared a live version of ‘Orange Crush’ taken from Mark and Lard on BBC Radio 1, which was first broadcast on October 15, 2003.

Lead singer Michael Stipe and Yorke were also recently pictured holding hands together at a New York art exhibition.

The pair posed for the picture at Stipe’s Infinity Mirror exhibition in the city which was inspired by his recent art book, Volume 1. According to Williamsburg’s Journal Gallery, where the exhibit was on display, it “further expands on his use of photo-based practices to explore the 1970s as a formative decade through its cultural impact on his coming of age, and subsequently, the manner in which its influence informed the creative work he went on to create, both privately and as a public figure.”

Meanwhile, Yorke also recently spoke out about his score for forthcoming 1977 horror remake Suspiria.

“Suspiria is one of those legendary soundtracks. It took a few months to even contemplate the idea,” he said.

“It was one of those moments in your life where you want to run away but you know you’ll regret it if you do. I watched the original film several times, and I loved it because it was of that time, an incredibly intense soundtrack. Obviously [1977 soundtrack composers] Goblin and Dario worked incredibly closely when they did it together.”
