Odds on AC/DC's 'Highway To Hell' bagging the UK Christmas Number One slot have been slashed from 10/1 to 3/1.

Betting has increased on the rockers' getting to the top of the charts over the festive season after a Facebook campaign to get people to buy the track has attracted over 100,000 likes in less than four days.

According to Paddy Power, the metal hit is second favourite to win the festive chart battle, behind the X Factor Winner with odds at 11/8.

This year will see the winner of the TV talent show re-enter the Christmas Number One race for the first time in two years. Winning contestants from the reality music show, now in its 10th series, have been behind five of the last eight Christmas Number One singles in the UK.

Back in 2009, a successful campaign to get Against The Machine’s 1993 single, 'Killing In The Name' made Joe McElderry became the first X Factor contestant to lose a Christmas Number One race with his cover of Miley Cyrus’s 'The Climb'.

Other contenders in this years Christmas Number One race include Lily Allen's cover of Keane's 'Somewhere Only We Know', which features on a John Lewis advert, 11-year-old choirboy Jack Topping with 'Tomorrow' from musical Annie, Britain’s Got Talent finalists Richard & Adam with 'I Saw Three Ships Come Sailing In (On Christmas Day)', and Susan Boyle and Elvis Presley's 'O Come, All Ye Faithful'.

Another record being tipped for the top slot features the stars of The Big Reunion, including 911, Blue, 5ive, Atomic Kitten, Liberty X and B*witched, who will release a cover of Wizzard’s 1973 hit 'I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday'.
