'Songs For Swing Left' aims to raise awareness for voting for Democrats in swing districts in the US

The National‘s Matt Berninger, Kurt Vile, Warpaint, and more will all feature on a new voting awareness compilation, it has been confirmed.

The artists will come together on ‘Songs For Swing Left‘, which has been created in a bid to raise awareness among US voters about putting their votes behind Democratic candidates in swing districts in the upcoming mid-term elections.

The free download will include new recordings from Cass McCombs and the Chapin Sisters, The National’s Matt Berninger and Blake Mills, Andrew Bird and Adam Levy, and William Tyler. Kurt Vile, Warpaint, Jim James, Bedouine, Jackson Browne, and more have contributed new versions of previously released tracks.

Each song will be introduced by a message from each artist. Berninger’s message says: “Hi, this is Matt from The National urging you to vote in the most important election of our time.” Additional tracks are reportedly set to be added to the compilation as the election gets closer.

‘Songs For Swing Left’ is available to stream and download now, via Bandcamp.

Earlier this year, The National gave an update on the follow-up to their latest album, ‘Sleep Well Beast’. Speaking to NME, they said the new record was over the halfway point to completion. Bryce Dessner added it was driven by “looseness” and “an energy that’s evaded us in the past.”

His brother Aaron said: “‘Sleep Well Beast’ still feels like it’s going somewhere – it hasn’t yet arrived completely to me.”
