K-pop singer Luna is back today (Jan. 4) with her hopeful new single “Even So,” and the sweet pop song sheds some light on the artists’ intimate thoughts.

A sprinkling of bells, funky strings, and fizzy synths ride beneath Luna’s rich, vocals and a groovy instrumental melody. Like the other two songs released on her three-track Even So project, Luna’s latest single is self-written by the singer. Lyrically, it features a comforting message of support and hope to those who are struggling. The Korea Herald reports that it is based on her own experiences, and that the music video’s contrasting dark and bright moments represent her time both in and out of the spotlight.

The video for “Even So” opens with Luna glammed-up and ready to sing, but as she holds onto the mic she sheds a tear. The song starts with another shot of the singer, sitting in her room in a more comfortable state of dress and contrasts it with darker images of her seated in a bathtub. For the rest of the video’s length, a variety of Luna’s are represented through different outfits, moods, and settings as “Even So” evokes a sense of intimacy between the star and her audience, who she is sharing these different parts of self with. As she finishes singing, the music video ends on the same shot of Luna as it began with but, following the comforting message of the song, this time no tear falls from her eye.

Luna debuted as a member of K-pop girl group f(x) in 2009, and released her first EP Free Somebody in 2016. Aside from the title track, her new album features two other songs, the evocative alt R&B track “Do You Love Me” with the singer George and the hazy jazz of “Bye Bye.” “Even So” is her first single since last April’s “Night Reminiscin’.”
