Weezy also says he hasn't listened to his album since it was released

Lil Wayne has shone light on a number of factors concerning his new album, Tha Carter V, in a revealing new interview.

Speaking to journalist Elliott Wilson for the “CRWN” interview series earlier this week, the American rapper said that he “didn’t know who XXXTentacion was” until he heard the late rapper’s feature on his song, ‘Don’t Cry’.

Wayne said that XXXTentacion’s inclusion on the album was fellow rapper Mack Maine’s idea, and that he only realised who he was after wrapping up the song.

Tha Carter V, Wayne’s twelfth studio album, was in legal limbo since 2015 but was finally released last Friday (September 28).

Among other topics, Wayne also revealed why Drake’s appearance on the record was scrapped.

He said that the planned collaboration didn’t make it on the album due to clearance issues. “A few of the singles that [Drake and I] released throughout the years—those were Carter V songs,” he said, referring to ‘Believe Me’ as one of the songs they released instead of holding them back.

Throughout the interview, Wayne said that he hasn’t listened to Tha Carter V since its release due to an emotional album introduction by his mother.

Additionally, when Wayne was asked about his Kendrick Lamar collaboration, ‘Mona Lisa,’ he said: “That song old, man.” He clarified, however, that the Nicki Minaj collaboration, ‘Dark Side of the Moon’, is a newer creation.

The full interview is available to watch exclusively on Tidal.

In other news, Wayne has announced the final collaborative merch item around his new album. He’s teamed up with Advisory Board Crystals brand and Wikipedia for a new shirt that features various screen-printed graphics as a “visual representation” of his Wikipedia page.
