Katy Perry is among the plethora of artists slated to appear at this year’s Grammys.

Considering that the “Unconditionally” singer came off a banner year in the music industry, it’s not altogether surprising that she was recently tapped to perform at the awards ceremony. However, the pop star isn’t the only recording artist currently slated to do their respective thing at the event.

In addition to Katy Perry, Metallica and singer Robin Thicke are presently expected to take the stage at the 2014 Grammy Awards. Lorde, Kendrick Lamar, Willie Nelson, and Daft Punk were previously announced for this year’s ceremony, suggesting that there’s a little something for everyone.

Of course, Katy Perry has a few musical dogs in this year’s race. The singer is up for both Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for her catchy little ditty “Roar.” Naturally, just because she’s scheduled to take the stage at the event doesn’t mean she’s a shoe-in for the honors.

“Roar” was a pretty big hit for the singer earlier this year. Perry and her record company watched as the tune was legitimately downloaded 557,024 times during its first week of release. This effectively gave Katy the biggest digital song sales week and largest digital song debut of her career.

“The inspiration behind that song is just about speaking up for yourself. And not letting yourself get in the way because… everybody talks about bullying and things like that and while that is important, sometimes you are your own biggest bully. Sometimes, you are the person that gets in the way of everything — your success, your personal relationships,” she said of the song’s inspiration last August.

She added:

“For a while, even though I was coming off as totally with it, professionally and everything, maybe I was a little immature personally. And so I finally just started garnering strength, and that’s what I wrote the song. [It's] about becoming stronger and speaking up for myself and making myself roar, essentially.”

While Katy Perry’s appearance at the 2014 Grammy Awards isn’t surprising, Metallica’s participation is definitely noteworthy. The metal band hasn’t performed at the event since 1991. To celebrate their return, the group will perform alongside master pianist Lang Lang.
