Glastonbury has been added to the list of UK festivals to have banned 'legal highs'.

As previously reported, the Association of Independent Festivals, which includes Bestival, T In The Park, Lovebox and Sonisphere, have banned the sale of legal highs by on-site traders at their events this summer. Now Glastonbury Festival, which takes place between June 25-29, has joined the list. Scroll down for a full list of participating festivals.

The Glastonbury website is currently taking part in a 'digital blackout' aimed at drawing awareness to the dangers of legal highs. The websites of all members of the Association of Independent Festivals will be taking part in the 24-hour scheme with each festival website down, aside from hosting the message "Don't be in the dark about legal highs".

A 2013 ONS report showed an 80 per cent increase of deaths from legal highs from 29 to 52. The European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction identified over 280 psychoactive synthetic substances as not being covered by existing drug laws.

Ben Turner, the AIF's co-founder and vice-chairman, has commented: "Legal highs are a serious concern for any festival organiser and the issue is only going to get bigger. Banning it at our festivals is only part of the battle however, we need to make fans aware of the dangers of legal highs and help them make safer choices when having fun onsite."
