The legendary post-hardcore perform at Brixton Academy this Saturday (August 18)

Post-hardcore band Glassjaw have unveiled a new video for their latest single ‘My Conscience Weighs a Ton’, taken last year’s comeback album ‘Material Control’.

In the video, the band can be seen walking down and dusty road and pensively stalking through corn fields in the midst of the blazing heat. The track itself is characterised by their distinctive, squalling guitar sound and guttural vocals.

‘Material Control’, coming 15 years after previous album ‘Worship & Tribute’ and six years after the EP ‘Coloring Book’, has been long-awaited by fans, some of whom speculated that it would never arrive. Speaking to The Guardian last year, Daryl Palumbo explained that the new record harked back to their previous albums. “Our tastes lie in that era and those sensibilities, that type of songwriting,” he said. “Our last two albums, sonically … they are what they are. But I think we’re really getting to sound like what we set out to do.”

Many reviewers considered ‘Material Control’ to be up there with the band’s previous work, with the blog ‘Brooklyn Vegan’ asserting that is “certainly good enough to be the new post-hardcore album that rock fans rally behind”.

Glassjaw, renowned for their raw uncompromising live performances, are due to play London’s prestigious Brixton Academy this Saturday (August 18).
