The EDM duo will turn filmmakers on the new project

The Chainsmokers are set to produce a movie based on their hit single ‘Paris’, it has been announced.

The EDM duo recently started their own production company, Kick The Habit Productions. The film will be developed under that banner with author Mickey Rapkin, who wrote the book that inspired Pitch Perfect, set to write the screenplay.

In a joint statement The Chainsmokers’ members Drew Taggart and Alex Pall said: “We are beyond thrilled to have launched Kick The Habit Productions as we continue to bridge the gap between our overall artistic vision, the entertainment industry as a whole and our fans. The age of being only a musician is over and we’re excited to go all-in on this venture to curate, produce and create meaningful projects.”

Dan Marcus, Kick The Habit’s COO and president, added: “Drew and Alex have a deep connection to their fans, not only through their music, but through what they stand for and represent: transcending preconceived limitations, pursuing one’s passion, entrepreneurialism, and a commitment to living an authentic life. They don’t just sing about these themes in their hit songs – it’s who they are.”

‘Paris’ originally appeared on the pair’s 2017 album ‘Memories… Do Not Open‘. In a Facebook post that shared the stories behind each of the record’s tracks around its release, The Chainsmokers revealed the inspiration for the song had come from one of Taggart’s friends.

“Drew had a friend from the East coast who had been struggling with a drug addiction for the past few years,” they wrote. “He was a childhood friend and their families were close, so his parents kept him informed on how he was doing. He and Drew would keep in touch on Facebook chat but would never speak about what he was going through, but meanwhile Drew knew of all the craziness that surrounded his friend’s life.

“We used Paris as a metaphor to convey that he felt like he was in a place where everything was fine, while being acutely aware of other people’s concern for him. Paris always being this romantic idealised place, the song is about escaping your reality, a reality often void of excitement and in your mind being somewhere else with someone else.”

Last year, it was revealed Backstreet Boys wanted to work with the duo and Diplo on their new album. Singer AJ McLean said the boyband had already “done stuff” with The Chainsmokers, calling them “amazing” as he teased the possibility of future collaborations.
