"I want to put records out again...I've missed it"

Creation Records’ icon Alan McGee is returning to the music industry with a new label, Creation23.

Founding Creation Records in 1983, the label was home to a string of successful artists including Oasis, Primal Scream, Teenage Fanclub and My Bloody Valentine until it’s end in 1999.

McGee’s next project, Poptones, replaced Creation Records in the early noughies and signed acts including The Hives, The Boxer Rebellion and DJ Cherrystones. His last label was 2013’s Cherry Red 359 Music and the project had limited success.

After Poptones wound-up in 2007, McGee has been managing bands in recent years including The Jesus and Mary Chain and The Happy Mondays.

Creation23 will specialise in releasing 7-inch boutique records. Speaking about the aim behind the project project, McGee said: “I want to put records out again…I’ve missed it, there’s a lot of good music around and it feels like a good time to do it.”

The label’s first release will be Essex’s Rubber Jaw with a song called ‘Feeling Funny/Bumpy Faces’. McGee added: “Twenty-three is my lucky number.”
