His "whole public persona" is allegedly faked.

21 Savage has reportedly been arrested by US immigration officials who say that he is actually from the UK.

The rapper, real name Shayaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, is alleged to have arrived in the US in July 2005 aged 12 and failed to leave when his visa expired a year later.

A spokesperson for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) spokesman has confirmed that he is being held ahead of removal proceedings.

According to CNN, an ICE spokesperson has described the rapper’s “whole public persona” as being faked.

“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested unlawfully present United Kingdom national Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph AKA ‘21 Savage’ during a targeted operation with federal and local law enforcement partners early Sunday in metro Atlanta,” said ICE spokesperson Brian Cox.

Twitter has since been lit up with memes and reactions.

Cox added: “Mr Abraham-Joseph was taken into ICE custody as he is unlawfully present in the US and also a convicted felon”. It’s thought that the felony relates to drug charges faced by the rapper in 2014.

But his lawyer, Dina LaPolt, says that the situation is a “misunderstanding” and pointed towards his frequent charity work – having created his own campaign to promote literacy which featured on The Ellen Show.

“We are working diligently to get Mr Abraham-Joseph out of detention while we work with authorities to clear up any misunderstanding,” said LaPolt.

“Mr Abraham-Joseph is a role model to the young people in the country — especially in Atlanta, Georgia and is actively working in the community leading programs to help underprivileged youths in financial literacy.”
