Last week, Microsoft teased some improvements for Windows 10’s live tiles and everyone thought that the company was finally ready to debut interactive tiles for PC and mobile devices.

It turns out this wasn’t the case, but today, Microsoft actually announced an update for live tiles on Windows 10 devices, be they PCs and mobile devices. Called “chaseable” live tiles, the new option isn’t an improvement as big as interactive live tiles, but it certainly comes in handy to those using store apps frequently.
Specifically, what these chaseable live tiles do is to open the applications exactly to the information displayed in the tile. For example, if you’re seeing the subject of a new email message in the Outlook live tile, tapping/clicking it gets you directly to that email, so you can read and reply to it faster than before.
Previously, clicking a live tile, no matter its current state, only launched the application to the default screen, so now the first thing you see is the information displayed by the tile.
Probably coming with Windows 10 Anniversary Update Microsoft hasn’t provided any information as to when the new live tiles could become available for users, but since developers also need to update their applications to support the new system, it could take a while until this happens.
Most likely, the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, also known by Microsoft enthusiasts as Redstone, is the one to bring chaseable live tiles, with Microsoft’s apps to be the first one to feature such functionality.
As for interactive live tiles, there’s still no evidence that they’re still alive, despite the fact that so many users are asking for them. It remains to be seen if Microsoft is still considering bringing them in a future update, but with Build 2016 already coming to an end, it’s hard to believe that more news in this regard could be released in 2016.
