It’s been a busy week for Windows 10 news. Let’s take a look back at some of the hot stories relating to Windows 10 in a special feature we call “Windows 10 news recap”.

Surface Pro 4, Surface Book ‘sleep’ fix coming soon (early 2016)

Many people have been having issues recently with their Surface Pro 4s and/or Surface Books in terms of battery power. Put simply, these devices often fail to sleep properly, resulting in the Surface’s battery dying far earlier than it ought to, and potentially causing overheating issues for the many people who carry their laptop around in a sealed bag.

Thankfully, in response to a thread in the Microsoft Community forums that has been populated with intense criticism, Microsoft has given a response to those worried about the battery life issue. They claim that the issue should be solved sometime very early in 2016 – this could mean anywhere from a month and 3 months.

Over 5 million hours of Xbox One game content streamed on Windows 10 since July 2015

According to Microsoft, gamers have streamed over 5 million hours of Xbox One game content to Windows 10 PCs, since the launch of the operating system in July. In fact, Fallout 4 has been streamed the most (in November). The company also revealed other stats about Windows 10 and Xbox gaming, as the company touts impressive Xbox sales performance during Black Friday 2015.

November 2015 marks the first time Windows 10 has exceeded Windows 8 in terms of gaming. More gamers are using Windows 10 as their PC gaming platform, with nearly 30 percent of Steam players utilizing Microsoft’s latest operating system for all their gaming needs.

Microsoft pushes cumulative update for Windows 10 version 1511

After pushing out a much-needed patch for display driver issues occurring on the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book, the Windows team is now releasing a relatively low-key cumulative update for the rest of Windows 10 users.

Windows 10 users should be soon seeing an update for Windows 10 version 1511 for x64 based systems, more specifically, (KB3116908) sitting in their Windows Update settings. The download and install time of the update is relatively quick and the details for what the update is fixing, addressing, patching or securing remains a mystery.

Windows 10 version 1511 has brought its fair share of feature rich updates while also delivering some users a head-scratching experience. As far as today’s cumulative update is concerned, it seems a bit early to render a verdict as there are no release notes for the update and few reports from Windows users to pull from. We do know that the build number is now 10586.17 after installing the update.

Microsoft beats Apple in online tablet sales

Apple’s iPad tablet ushered in the modern tablet era when it was introduced in 2010, and it’s dominated tablet sales ever since. iPad sales have stagnated recently, but nevertheless Apple has maintained its lead in overall tablet market share. WinBeta received an early version of an upcoming report, “1010data Facts for Ecom Insights, January 2014 – October 2015” by the 1010data Ecom Insights Panel, however, that indicates all of that might be changing as Microsoft assumes the mantle of best-selling tablet maker in terms of online sales in October.
