Microsoft has recently rolled out Windows 10 build 10166 to provide users with one of the last insider preview versions before RTM, and in addition to bug fixes and performance improvements, it turns out that the company has also focused on some small visual tweaks.

As @BAV0 writes today, Windows 10 build 10166 comes with 12 updated icons, which is once again living proof that Microsoft got the message sent by users after build 9926 and focused a lot more on the icons to be offered in Windows 10.
Windows 10 icon criticism

A couple of months ago, the new icon pack that Microsoft introduced with build 9926 started a new frenzy online, with many testers criticizing the company for going for such a rudimentary design in an operating system that's supposed to revamp Windows from the ground up.

Soon after this criticism started taking over the web, Microsoft rolled out an updated icon pack in Windows 10, providing us with a new and more modern look that better fits the operating system.

As you can see in this screenshot, the new icons indeed seem to be more polished and to blend perfectly with the revamped look of Windows 10 too. The operating system itself got a makeover and comes with several aesthetic improvements, including a new dark theme, transparency, and blur effects across the desktop.

This was one of the most requested changes in Windows 10, and Microsoft certainly got the message, so seeing these new icons bundled into build 10166 is not at all surprising.

Windows 10 is projected to launch on July 29, so we're not very far from getting our hands on the final bits of the operating system. Expect some more refinements to be introduced before this happens, so more polished icons could be included too.
