RaspEX Live CD Is Ready for Raspberry Pi 3, Based on Debian 8.3 and Ubuntu 15.10
RaspEX developer Arne Exton informs Softpedia about the availability for download of a new, special build of the RaspEX Live CD distribution optimized for the new Raspberry Pi 3 single-board computer.
The new RaspEX Build 160307 has been specially released to support the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B SBC announced by the Raspberry Pi Foundation on February 29, 2016, in addition to it supporting the Raspberry Pi 2 Model B board.
Exton exclusively told Softpedia that not all the Linux kernel-based operating system initially designed for Raspberry Pi 2 boards will run on the new Raspberry Pi 3 Model B computer, so that's why he had to release a new build of RaspEX.
"They need to be upgraded with a new kernel. I, therefore, have to upgrade the systems I distribute (i.e. RaspEX, RaspEX with OpenCPN, RaspAnd, and RaspArch)," said Arne Exton for Softpedia. "RaspEX Build 160307 with a new kernel runs very well on Raspberry Pi 3."
RaspEX promises a faster desktop-oriented experience According to the developer, the RaspEX operating system promises a faster desktop-oriented experience for the Raspberry Pi 3 single-board computer, and it borrows GNU/Linux technologies from the upstream Ubuntu, Linaro, and Debian projects.
In fact, RaspEX Build 160307 has been based on the latest Debian GNU/Linux 8.3 (Jessie), Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf), and Linaro's open source software for ARM SoCs. The new release also includes the Wicd network manager and Firefox web browser.
RaspEX Build 160307 is now available for download, for free, from Softpedia. It is recommended to use it for your new Raspberry Pi 3 computer, but you can also install it on a Raspberry Pi 2 board. All the juicy installation details and other essential info can be found on the project's release page.
