Q4OS 1.2 Arrives with the Trinity Desktop Environment, Based on Debian 8.0 Jessie

The Q4OS Team informed Softpedia about the immediate availability of the Q4OS 1.2 Linux distribution based on the stable branch of the acclaimed Debian GNU/Linux 8.0 (Jessie) computer operating system.

Q4OS is a small and lightweight distribution of GNU/Linux built around the Trinity desktop environment, which is also known as TDE, a fork of the old-school KDE SC (Software Compilation) desktop environment.

The new release, Q4OS 1.2, was announced today, April 27, and is dubbed Orion. Powered by Linux kernel 3.16, Q4OS will be supported with security patches, bug fixes, and security updates until May 1, 2020.

"The first stable Q4OS 1.2 version based on Debian Jessie is out," says the Q4OS Team in an email to Softpedia. "We are proud to announce the immediate availability of the new Q4OS 1.2 release, codenamed 'Orion', supported until 1st May 2020 at least."

    Here's what's new in Q4OS 1.2

The Q4OS 1.2 Linux kernel-based operating system comes with the latest stable version of the Trinity desktop environment, a native integrated wireless networks manager, as well as numerous firmware and drivers from the upstream Debian 8.0 repositories.

The new release of Q4OS also includes its own exclusive features and in-house built tools, such as 'Desktop profiler' for profiling your PC into various professional tools, and 'Setup utility' for the painless installation of third-party apps.

Additionally, there's the 'Welcome Screen' tool, which provides users with several integrated shortcuts, allowing them to configure their Q4OS installations more easily. In addition to the Trinity desktop, users can also run the KDE4, LXDE, and Xfce desktops.
