The Moto X emerged from Motorola last August (Motorola having belonged to Google at the time), and it can with some decent though less than mind-blowing specs. Motorola didn’t succeed in proving that its dual-core processor (and contextual processors) was enough to rival high-end smartphones with quad-core processors.

This year, however, the rumors posit that Motorola’s looking to release a quad-core, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor in its Moto X successor, dubbed by leakster and Twitter member Evan Blass (@evleaks) as “Moto X+1.” Now, an unofficial phone has made its way into the wild that is being considered as a legitimate prototype of Motorola’s new high-end smartphone.

Tech site TK Tech News received a Motorola device from a Motorola employee who says that it’s a legitimate Moto X+1. In its YouTube video, TK Tech News placed the device alongside of a Nexus 5 to show that the new Motorola device boasts a wider display than the Nexus 5. According to the same video, the new Motorola device features more accurate color reproduction than the Nexus 5. Since the Nexus 5 has a 4.95-inch display, the new Motorola device has a display that places the device over the 5-inch mark. TK Tech says that the new Motorola device is 1080p, making it an ideal display for crisp images and a pleasant on-screen viewing experience.

Is this the new Moto X+1? Well, let’s consider the phone against a Moto X from 2013:

If you’ll notice, the Motorola phone concealed above looks rather similar to the 2013 Moto X’s bezel design than it does the Nexus 5. While it’s the potential to be a Motorola Droid (the Verizon LTE designation in the video may bring you to this conclusion), it looks awfully close to the design language of the Moto X.

Moto X+1 rumors have been supplied to us courtesy of not only @evleaks, but also GFX benchmarks that show the Moto X+1 will’ve a 5.2-inch display with a Full HD screen resolution (1920 x 1080p), a quad-core, 2.3Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM, running Android 4.4.3 KitKat. The new display seems too large to be the 2013 Moto X, but its display is far more accurate than the Nexus 5. We can at least confirm the 1080p AMOLED display – which leaves only a few smartphones as potential choices.
