In the spring, the Windows 10 Redstone 4 update is expected to launch, which will bring a whole heap of innovations and, perhaps, will receive the official name Spring Creators Update. Its run-in is still going on, but Microsoft, as it has done more than once in the past, has created another branch of RS_PRERELEASE in its Windows Insider program, which will test the next major update.

"Insiders" who want to stay on the current branch, can still receive updates within the Fast Ring and Slow Ring mailings. Those who want to look a little further within the Skip Ahead program can already install the first unstable assembly of Windows 10 Redstone 5, which, as expected, was released recently. Running the final RS5 will take place at the end of summer.

While Microsoft allows only a small number of testers subscribed to Fast Ring updates, choose Skip Ahead: the company wants the majority to continue testing the Redstone 4 builds and report any errors found. In fact, those who have not previously chosen Skip Ahead are unlucky - now this parameter is inactive, that is, Microsoft still has enough people to test RS5.

The first version of Redstone 5 is the build of 17604. Like 17101 (Redstone 4), it contains updates to the emoticons collection, improved UWP-application rights management (Universal Windows App) and a lot of fixes. Added a new power scheme "Ultimate Performance" (Ultimate Performance). It is primarily designed for workstations dealing with resource-intensive tasks.

Microsoft says that this new scheme is developing the "High-Performance" mode and is designed to eliminate the micro-delay associated with power management methods. It can be selected by both manufacturers as a preset, and end users through the control panel. While on battery-powered systems (such as laptops and tablets) this scheme is not available.
