Microsoft is expected to ship a new preview build of Windows 10 in the coming days and Edge browser, the new app that will replace Internet Explorer as the default browser in the upcoming operating system, will be part of this release too.

The company confirmed today that Microsoft Edge will be there in the next version of Windows 10 preview for fast ring users, as the rebranding process from Project Spartan has finally been completed.

Microsoft Edge has already been spotted in the leaked builds of Windows 10 that came out recently, so it seems that Microsoft is finally ready to make it available for everyone registered for the Windows Insider program.

“In the next build we release to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring, the “Project Spartan” name will officially change to Microsoft Edge. One result of this naming means that the Microsoft Edge app has a new app ID. This will cause any favorites, cookies, history and Reading list items that you had saved in the Project Spartan app to be lost after upgrading from a previous Windows 10 Insider Preview build,” the company said in an announcement today.

All your favorites and history will be removed

Once Microsoft Edge becomes available, all your favorites, cookies, and history items from Project Spartan will be lost, the company warns, so in order to save them, you need to manually save everything before upgrading to the new Windows 10 build.

To do this, you need to copy your favorites from the following location:

%localappdata%/Packages/Microsoft.Windows.Spartan_cw5n1h2txyewy/AC/Spartan/User/Default/Favorites

To this location:

%userprofile%/Favorites

Note that the %userprofile tag is the name of your Windows user account. Once you're on Edge, at the first run, you'll be allowed to import your settings. Choose Internet Explorer to import all of these into Edge autocratically and you're good to go.
