    +1 Avast - it seems to catch stuff AVG doesn't
    AVG uses way too much resources; albeit it's been a while since I have tried it, so not sure about their latest version.

    testing out MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) now. I'll admit, it has a smaller resource footprint than Avast, but less features.

    Either way - I say best combo is Comodo Time Machine + Avast (on Win7, I can't say if TM will work on Win8 as I haven't test it) - I've ran that combo since Win7 was released and it's been rock solid. Time Machine is kick ass (I used Deep Freeze Prior to) as it can take snapshots (of disk, not just files) and restore within minutes to whatever condition you want your machine in.

    Microsoft Security Essentials uses less system resources,free,updated,will not bother you with deleting cracks,easy interface

    Avast works for me. Emsisoft Anti-Malware is another great free AV that I used in the past.
