While many think of the Oculus Rift and other virtual reality (VR) head-mounted displays (HMD) as strictly in-home products, some companies are looking to use the technology beyond the home in arcade-like outlets. One such company is Aurora Gaming, which has this week announced an agreement with Virtual View Productions that will see the latter develop two new VR videogames for release in VR lounges across Dubai next year.

Aurora Gaming hopes to launch these lounges at ‘key locations’ around Dubai in Q1 2015, with plans to expand into the wider Middle East region down the line. They will contain exclusive content from Virtual View Productions, including two newly-announced VR videogames.

The first is Spirit City, which will take the form of both a VR series as well as videogame developed using the Unity engine. The series will follow a former police officer living in a future in which a spirit world has merged with the real world. The other title is a Duck Hunt-style videogame named Gulls At Dawn. Here players try to stop sea gulls from stealing protagonist Bobby’s ice creams. The title is aimed at both children and adults.

“Virtual View Productions has already established exciting creative partnerships with game developers like Bristol based Opposable Games and Pinewood Studios based motion capture company Centroid amongst others to ensure that we create amazing VR experiences,” Virtual View Production’s Creative Director Stuart Gallop said of the deal. “This new partnership with Aurora Gaming and Magic Planet opens up exciting new opportunities for our content and to expand the potential of VR entertainment into the Middle East market.”

It’s currently not clear if these experiences could see release in other parts of the world, or what tech they will be running on. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all news in the VR industry, reporting back with any more updates.
