There are many of us out there that do still enjoy Diablo III and everything it has to offer. However, those who cry out for an injection of something new for the ARPG raise some very valid points, even more so after the little attention the game has received at the past two Blizzcon events. With little presence at this year’s exhibition, and the announcement of the Rise of the Necromancer the year previous after heavy rumors of a new Diablo game were quashed, it’s completely understandable to want to see something new.

A potential solution for this could be the introduction of mod support and offline play. The former in particular has been successful in reinvigorating many games that have begun to feel dated, and also give a platform to players to bring their own creative processes to the game.

However, both of these ideas were rejected by Blizzard way back in 2011, and it seems as if there is still no chance of it happening in the future. When the question was raised on the official forums, a rather prompt response from Technical Support MissCheetah:

No. They said no in 2011 and have continued to say no since.
The reasoning behind it is for Blizzard to ultimately protect Diablo III from piracy by locking it behind a closed online server, which as pointed out by the tech support user, is still a relevant reason to keep these features out of the game.
