The Resident Evil 2 Remake is out right now, and it's already one of the best games of the year. The main two characters are Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield, but while it's possible to use mods to play as Ada Wong or other characters, the one big surprise is a playable Resident Evil 2 Remake Chris Redfield.

Claire's brother has a fully playable character model in the game's files, based upon his (slightly divisive) appearance in Resident Evil 7. He may be planned for DLC, but he's actually playable right now. Here's how to do it as we show you how to play as Chris Redfield in Resident Evil 2 Remake!

How to Play Resident Evil 2 Remake Chris Redfield

It was a surprise to dataminers, looking into Resident Evil 2 Remake's files, when they discovered a full character model for Chris Redfield as a playable character already in the game. It's possible Capcom will decide to release Chris Redfield as DLC, maybe even Ada Wong too, even as a character in the "Extreme Battle" mode that was in the original game (and included Chris as a playable character). However, supposedly his Resident Evil 7 model was merely used to test the game before Leon and Claire were finalized, so it might just be left over.

Nevermind though, because with our help you'll be able to play through the whole game as Chris Redfield. The first thing you'll need is the Chris Redfield mod which you can get here. While the files and models are in the game already, this mod will unlock them.

Back up the .pak file in RESIDENT EVIL 2 BIOHAZARD RE2\920561, then download the mod and extract it to the game's root folder. Then when you're either starting or in the game as Leon, go to 'Costumes' on the menu and choose Leon's "Noir" outfit. You'll get Chris Redfield instead, and can play the whole game as him!

There are downsides, however. For starters, the Leon Noir skin it replaces isn't free, so either you have to buy that (unless you have the Deluxe Edition) or wait for someone to mod it to a different, free skin. Second, the Chris Redfield model isn't complete, so it doesn't have mouth movements, and guns will follow him on the ground instead of appearing on his body.

Oh yes, and it's the weird Resident Evil 7 model of Chris Redfield rather than the bulky Superman most people know. If you want a go as him though, give it a try! Couldn't be simpler - and it's free, as long as you have the Noir skin.
