Video game developer Avalanche Studios and publisher Square Enix are confirming that the much-rumored Just Cause 3 is currently in development and is set to offer a new take on the traditional mechanics of the series.

At the moment, the experience is set to be offered on the Xbox One from Microsoft, the PlayStation 4 from Sony, and the PC in 2015, although no clear window has been specified so far.

Just Cause 3 is set to be offered both at retail and as a full digital download, and the two companies want to make sure that there are no plans to offer it using a free-to-play business model or to include any kind of micro transactions which would involve real-world currency.

Christofer Sundberg, a co-founder and the chief creative officer at the studio, says that for a long time his team was forced to fend off questions from fans and to cover up all the development efforts that were linked to the title.

He states on the official site that "This is the culmination of a decade’s worth of open-world evolution and innovation. In Just Cause 3, we’ve sent Rico to a beautiful Mediterranean archipelago. He is of course bringing his Grapple and Parachute, both with game-changing upgrades, as well as the brand new Wingsuit."

The team at Avalanche Studios also says that it has big plans for post-launch support for Just Cause 3, including both big DLC and smaller item packs, in an effort to keep the game relevant for years.

Just Cause 3 could revolutionize the open-world genre

Just Cause has long been one of the franchises that have managed to mix classic open-world elements with crazy stunts and a sense of humor, creating situations that force gamers to experiment and find new approaches.

Sundberg adds, "We can't wait to see your reactions to what we've created. Just Cause 3 truly represents the next generation of chaotic sandbox fun. But just like real sandboxes, ours doesn't really come to life until it's populated by crazy kids refusing to let go of the red barrel as it's shooting across the sky about to explode in a sea of fire, and... Wait, where are we going with this again?"

At the moment, Avalanche is also working on a Mad Max video game, which is also supposed to be offered in 2015 but very limited details have been offered about it.
