Xûr is Destiny 2’s Exotic gear merchant. He appears every weekend to sell the game’s most coveted items in exchange for Legendary shards, but if you’re a casual player with limited shards to spend, it can be hard to know which of his wares is most worth your investment. That’s where we come in.

Xûr appears every Friday at 17:00 GMT (09:00 Pacific), and will stick around until the Tuesday reset. We’ll update this guide shortly after he arrives, so if you’re reading this, you need only read on to learn where he is, and which are the best items he’s selling this week.

Ever since the Forsaken expansion, Xûr’s icon no longer appears on your director, so he’s not quite as easy to track down as he used to be. That said, his appearances in the EDZ, Titan, Nessus, Io, and The Tower have so far been in the same places he frequented in vanilla Destiny 2. When he appears in the Tangled Shore or Dreaming City (as he surely will) we’ll be sure to let you know exactly where.

Xûr is back at the Tower this week, hanging out in the Hanger. He is selling:

Sweet Business, an Exotic primary auto rifle, for 29 legendary shards
Hallowfire Heart, Exotic Titan chest armour, for 23 legendary shards
Winter’s Guile, an Exotic Warlock gauntlets, for 23 legendary shards
Aeon Swift, Exotic Hunter gauntlets, for 23 legendary shards
A Fated Engram, which guarantees a non-duplicate Exotic, for 97 legendary shards.

Sweet Business is technically an auto rifle, but clearly the correct term is ‘minigun’. It fires faster and deals more damage as its rotary barrels spin up, and its capacious magazine of 99 rounds will automatically reload whenever you pick up ammo. That’s great if you’re moving around, but a Titan’s Rally barricade, or a Warlock’s Rift if they’re wearing Lunafaction Boots, also give options for reloading when stationary. It’s thus possible to keep the gun firing at its fastest rate for several magazines, making it an excellent pick for chucking out damage in PvE. Titans should pair with the Actium War Rig for even better results. It’s almost as good as Coldheart as a DPS option for the Calus fight in the raid, especially on the closest two plates. Just as importantly, it’s pure fun – who doesn’t want a minigun?

Hallowfire Heart is a Titan chest that improves the recharge rate of all your Solar abilities while Hammer of Sol is charged, so obviously, it’s for Sunbreakers who are willing to hold their Super in exchange for more grenades and melee attacks. I doubt there are many of those, since Hammer of Sol is one of the Sunbreaker’s highlights, while its grenades are lacklustre. That said, the recharge buff is significant, and can be paired with sunspots through the Siegebreaker tree (remember explosive abilities can conjure these too – it’s not just your Super) for a brief period of grenade spamming. That’s us trying quite hard to legitimise this thing, though – frankly Sunbreaker just isn’t good enough right now to make Hallowfire Heart a competitive pick, especially in PvP. Avoid unless you’re swimming in shards.

Winter’s Guile is a Warlock glove that will cause melee kills to raise your melee damage. It sounds bland, but it’s deceptively powerful – the buff can stack up to five times, and community testing has shown it scales sharply at the upper end. By the fourth or fifth stack, you can one-shot Colossi. The catch is that each stack only lasts for four seconds, so it’s best in swarm situations. Voidlocks can pair with Devour for some healing if they’re getting overwhelmed, but unlike many Exotics, they work with any subclass. Don’t overlook these – they’re useless in Crucible, but a great pick for the right playstyle in PvE.

Aeon Swift is a piece for team players. Dodging with it equipped gives grenade energy to friendly Warlocks, barricade energy to friendly Titans, and dodge energy to friendly Hunters. That means it’s basically useless when playing solo, and its value is questionable even when you’re in a Fireteam. Your Warlock will certainly appreciate the boosted grenade cooldown, but it’s unlikely your Titan is ever looking for more Barricades. Best avoided unless you and your team have a masterful plan for very specific group synergies.
