Sales of Halo 5: Guardians' REQ packs have brought the Halo World Championship prize pool to $2.5 million.

REQ pack sales have generated at least $1.5 million in revenue for 343 Industries and Microsoft—likely more, as the company previously stated that only a portion would be added to the prize pool, which started at $1 million.

The prize pool has now been locked, and the top 16 teams will compete for their share of the $2.5 million.

Microsoft announced the "biggest individual prize pool in console esports history," a total prize of $1 million USD, for the first place team.

Slated to take place from March 18 to March 20, the Halo World Championships will be held in Hollywood, California. An exact venue hasn't been announced, but Microsoft expects to share the details on March 4. Sixteen teams from around the world battled for their spot in the finals—among them, eight teams from North America, four from Europe and Africa, two from Australia and New Zealand, one from Asia, and one from Latin America.

Though the prize pool is locked, REQ packs will continue to be sold through Halo 5: Guardians' REQ store. In February, 343 Industries made its premium Arena REQ bundle available. The Arena REQ bundle is a one-time purchase of $25, and gives plays two premium REQ packs per week for seven weeks.
