The development team at Telltale Games announces that the first episode of the upcoming Game of Thrones episodic series will be called Iron from Ice and promises that the launch date will be announced soon and the title will be out before the end of the year.

The information comes from the official Twitter account of the company and the studio also says that the entire first season of the series will consist of six episodes, which will probably be offered about one month apart, if other franchises from the same team are an example.

Telltale Games has also delivered a new teaser image for its Game of Thrones experience, but there are still no details offered on the story that will be told or on the mechanics that gamers will use to push the narrative forward.

Previously, the company has suggested that a new family called the Foresters will be the protagonists and that the entire story will take place in the North of the Seven Kingdoms and will involve some very familiar faces.

The series based on A Song of Ice and Fire is designed to operate in the areas not covered by either the books written by George R.R. Martin or by the television series created by HBO.

Telltale Games has suggested that it will try to create a story that deals with some of the same major themes, including the lure of power and the way intrigue can quickly change the fortunes of individuals.

Game of Thrones aims for complete lore accuracy

At the moment, Telltale Games is not willing to announce an official launch date for the first episode, but we do know that gamers can play it on the PC, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PlayStation 3 from Sony.

George R. R. Martin has revealed that his personal assistant, Ty Corey Franck, widely considered to be one of the most knowledgeable individuals when it comes to the lore of the universe, is working with the studio in order to make sure that all the details are right.

The episodic game mechanics that Telltale has deployed successfully for The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us, heavy on dialogue and light on actual action, are uniquely suited to the universe of A Song of Ice and Fire.

It will be interesting to see whether the dedicated fans of the books in the series will be satisfied to play the coming game as they wait for the next novel to be officially released.
