A new trailer for MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries showcases the upcoming game’s destructibility feature. Fans can see how damage to the player, enemies, and the environment is implemented in combat.

Due to the success of the free-to-play multiplayer only MechWarrior Online, the popular giant robot franchise for the PC is going back to single-player for the first time in almost two decades. Developed by Piranha Games and powered by the Unreal Engine 4, MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is a story-based game driven by player choice and designed with replayability in mind. The game will also feature 4-player co-op and full mod support. First announced at Mech_Con 2016, MechWarrior 5 will be playable for the first time in December of this year.

Piranha Games have released a trailer for MechWarrior 5 which gives fans a preview of the game’s destructive capabilities. In the video, giant mechs can been stomping through battlefields while blowing up everything in sight, including turrets, helicopters, and tanks. In one scene, a robot’s arms is blasted off. You can also watch a mech fall from a dropship and crush a tank. The trailer lets fans witness the destruction in both first and third person. As the result of an explosion, debris flies back and hits the player character’s cockpit, which gives fans an even greater idea of what to expect in terms of destruction and how it can affect the player and the environment.

Destructibility isn’t a new feature to the MechWarrior franchise. However, this latest installment takes blowing things up to a whole new level. How a mech is damaged can determine how it performs in battle. A damaged or destroyed leg could cripple the mech or keep it from having the speed and the stamina necessary to return to its dropship in time.

Trees, buildings, and other structures can be used for cover, but just like the mechs, they too can be destroyed. In attacking a base, players will have to make their way past various enemy AI infantry and combat vehicles. Players will have decide on which ammo and weapons are best suited for taking out the enemy’s defenses. The game promises to provide MechWarrior fans with plenty of opportunities for wrecking buildings, causing explosions, and wreaking havoc on giant robots.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries launches in December 2018 for the PC.
