Blizzard intends to keep adding new heroes and maps to its upcoming hero brawler Heroes of the Storm, to constantly work on it and expand it in order to maintain the experience fresh for its players.

The game is currently undergoing closed beta testing, with developer Blizzard Entertainment sending out new invites regularly to those who have opted in for testing, and there is already a pretty sizable community playing matches every day.

Heroes of the Storm is pretty different from a typical multiplayer online battle arena, although in many ways it’s also similar, and Game Director Dustin Browder revealed some interesting things about it in a recent interview with PC Gamer.

One of the points he touched on during the interview was that there is no golden number of heroes, maps, or game modes for the game, a certain threshold to reach before launching the game, and that the team would constantly work on improving the experience for its fans.

He mentioned that they would keep adding new heroes forever, and that there is no secret number or internal goal that they’re going for. The same goes for maps, as the development team aims to keep adding more, as soon as they come up with new and interesting mechanics that test well internally.

There is no goal to reach before the full launch

He intends to keep this up post-launch, but for the time being has no clear schedule, and can’t reveal when the game will be finally available for everyone to try.

“This is the pace that we’re hoping to continue developing at going forward. We’re gonna add game modes, we’re gonna add new heroes, we’re gonna add new battlegrounds. Our goal for this game is to communicate with our audience to the best of our ability that you haven’t seen anything yet.

“We don’t want this game to become stale. We do not want this game to become repetitive. We want this game to constantly evolve,” Browder stated.

In case you didn’t get your invite to Heroes of the Storm’s closed beta, you can always buy your way in via the founder’s pack.
