Ubisoft has just released a new trailer for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which finally gives fans a good glimpse of the game’s story and factions, including the mysterious threat of the Hidden Ones. Ubisoft previously revealed that the new entry is set during the Viking invasion of England. Specifically, the game’s story begins in 873 AD and will take place across Britain, Norway, and Scandinavia, focusing on the story of Eivor, a Viking warrior who has to lead their clan after the death of their father.

Given that it’s set during the Viking’s expansion into England, Assassin's Creed Valhalla puts a lot of emphasis on settlement building. According to Ubisoft, many of the game’s major quests and story arcs will begin and end at the player’s settlement, and many of their choices will affect how the settlement will develop. The new title will also do something slightly different than its predecessors when it comes to the protagonist’s gender. While Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey let players choose between siblings of opposite genders, Valhalla will allow players to not only be able to choose which gender the protagonist Eivor will be at the start of the game, but also be able to switch Eivor's gender at any point.

The new story trailer was released by Ubisoft on its YouTube channel, showing the male version of Eivor reuniting with his brother Sigurd before they depart their homeland of Norway to seek greener pastures in England. The new footage also shows off some of the game’s historical characters and enemies, including Alfred the Great, the sons of Ragnar Lothbrok, the Saxons, and more. Finally, the trailer finally gives fans the first hints of the Hidden Ones as well as what looks like the Order of the Ancients.

Previously released trailers and details for the game also revealed that players may encounter several mythical and legendary characters and beasts in the game. Valhalla’s announcement trailer showed fans a glimpse of the Norse god Odin while Ubisoft previously announced that mythical creatures from British mythology will also be featured in the game, such as the Black Shuck from East Anglian folklore. A quest line focusing on the previously mentioned legendary Viking hero Ragnar Lothbrok, as well as another questline that is an homage to William Shakespeare’s King Lear will also be featured in the game.

The story of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla definitely looks interesting and is definitely a game that fans of Norse mythology and history may be interested in. Fortunately, the game has been set to release a week earlier than previously announced so it coincides with the release of the Xbox Series X/S, ostensibly making it a launch title for the next-generation console.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla will be available for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Stadia on November 10, 2020, and it launches on PS5 on November 12, 2020.
