Today Bungie held a steam showcasing a lot of the major changes coming to Destiny with Year 2. Year 2, if you were unaware refers to September 15th, 2015, the day that The Taken King expansion will be released. The expansion is going to be the largest addition that the game has ever seen therefore a lot of important systems are getting completely overhauled. If you missed the stream or just need some help wrapping your head around all the announcements from today, here are 27 things that you need to know from today’s reveal.



  1. If you’re currently level 34, you will start The Taken King as a level 34.
  2. A new sword weapon called Arc Edge was shown. It allows you to defend using L2 and is effective against Solar and Void attacks, but is less effective against Arc attacks.
  3. While in the tower you can select which item you want to have equipped on your character. This will be reflected by showing it on his / her back.
  4. Ghost shells now have special features like the ability to help you find spirit bloom and stats that affect your intellect, discipline, or strength level.
  5. The new light level system is an average of your attack and defense across all equipped items including ghost shells and player artifacts.
  6. Your Strength / Intellect / and Discipline stats are more clearly shown on the user interface and include actual cooldown times of each ability.
  7. You can now hold 32 quests in your inventory.
  8. Quests can now be turned in at anytime in the game. No word on the app yet.
  9. Class items like capes, bonds, and sashes now have perks built into them.
  10. Vault space will be doubled for weapons increasing to 72 slots. Armor also has 72 slots now. For general items (formerly known as inventory) you will have 36 slots.
  11. If you buy the taken king you can automatically level to 25 with a special item called a “Spark of Light.” This will boost you to the minimum level for The Taken King so you can play with your friends.
  12. Collections will keep track of the exotics, ships, emblems and shaders that you have collected and let you know which you still have not acquired. There will also be a brief description about how you can acquire them.
  13. Factions must now be pledged to and can only be swapped once a week. Once you pledge to a faction you will gain reputation for the faction and the Vanguard / Crucible as well.
  14. Any faction reputation gained in year 1 will carry over into year 2's new system.
  15. Reputation packages acquired for gaining levels with factions vanguard and crucible are now guaranteed to deliver a legendary and will have an increased chance of dropping a shader.
  16. Vanguard and Crucible marks have been replaced with Legendary Marks.There is now no cap on how many marks you can acquire in a week and they are shared across all characters.
  17. New quests and bounties have been added to the rotation, and completing all 5 weekly bounties will grant you Nightfall tier rewards.
  18. Dismantling a legendary item now give you legendary marks.
  19. Exotic blueprints allow you to regain anything you’ve lost using the new collection system. Exotics are also shared across accounts.
  20. Some year 1 exotics have been upgraded to year 2 level exotics.
  21. Exotic perks are immediately unlocked when purchasing them from a collection.
  22. Not all exotics are getting upgraded for Year 2.
  23. While damage levels have been normalized, all weapons you currently own will not be losing power even though their numerical damage value has changed.
  24. The Cryptarch will sell legendary engrams for legendary marks that are guaranteed to turn into a legendary weapon.
  25. The Gunsmith will now allow you to take weapons into the field and try them out.
  26. Gaining reputation or ranking with the gunsmith will allow you to get a new gun every Wednesday from the Foundry Orders section of his inventory. This is one way to acquire the Suros, Hakuh, and Omolon weapons.
  27. For all year 2 legendary / exotic weapons and armor there is a new infusion system that will allow you to consume a powerful weapon (that you’ll be able to choose) to boost the attack value of a favorite weapon.



Keep in mind that there are two more streams planned in the coming weeks. Bungie will be heading to the new location known as the Dreadnaught to fight some Cabal and see a new strike.
