A new poster for season 2 of The Witcher reveals a new look at Ciri training to fight. Based on the work of Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher premiered in December 2019 as one of Netflix’s best seasons of television ever. Season 1 uses three interwoven timelines to follow its eponymous Witcher, Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra), and Ciri of Cintra (Freya Allan). The latter princess’ story sees her become Geralt’s child of surprise before the fall of Cintra at the hands of Nilfgaardian invaders.

Ciri spends the bulk of season 1 on the run from Nilfgaard until her and Geralt’s destined paths finally converge in the finale. While season 1 adapts portions of Sapkowski’s The Last Wish, season 2 will look to Blood of Elves, taking Geralt and Ciri to the Kaer Morhen. Non-readers/gamers may have gotten a glimpse of the old fortress where Witchers of the School of the Wolf are trained in the anime film, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, which also introduces audiences to Vesemir. New additions to The Witcher’s season 2’s cast include that of Geralt’s mentor Vesemir (Kim Bodnia) and a handful of other monster hunters.

The Witcher’s official Twitter account recently shared a poster showing a “destined to fight” Ciri wielding a wooden sword. Clearly, the Ciri shown in the poster is one who has not only made it to Kaeri Morhen but is being trained by its witcher inhabitants. Check it out below:

Various promotional material, including The Witcher’s latest trailer and other clips, have shown off Ciri’s new look in season 2. As alluded to in the series pilot, women don’t train to become Witchers. Only three out of ten men survive the third in the Witcher trials, the Trial of the Dreams, which involves the mutation of the eyes, bone marrow, and hormones. A woman has never survived that particular trial and, in the books/games, Ciri never undergoes the Trial of Dreams. However, Ciri will train at Kaer Morhen with Vesemir teaching her about monsters and herbs, Lambert (Paul Bullion) and Eskel (Basil Eidenbenz) training her in the art of combat, and Coën (Yasen Atour) training her to use a sword. On top of that, Ciri will undoubtedly grapple with her own unique set of mysterious powers touched upon in season 1.

Fans have waited two years for season 2, and the series looks to deliver promises made by its beloved source material. The success of The Witcher has already inspired a live-action prequel series entitled The Witcher: Blood Origin, which will further explore what it means to become a Witcher. As evident by the above poster and season 1’s split narrative, Ciri’s journey is as intricate to The Witcher’s story as Geralt's and Yennefer's. Showrunner Lauren Hissrich has confirmed that season 2 will be much more linear, beginning with them traveling the dangerous The Witchers Trail to reach Kaer Morhen. In order to get there, they’ll have to fight.
