Modesty is the hallmark of any true hero. It's not enough to do something brave, one must also skirt the spotlight and downplay his or her heroism. With that in mind, the latest episode of Saturday Night Live recently decided to poke some fun at Tom Hanks' Sully by imagining the hero pilot as an attention-hungry individual with a hyper-inflated ego. As you can imagine, the results were hilarious. Check it out below.

Tom Hanks once again donned his Sully mustache for a hilarious Saturday Night Live sketch about the new life of the now famous pilot. The skit sees Sully finally return to flying after a long absence, ready to take the reigns as the pilot of an American Airlines flight. He sits proudly in the cockpit of the airplane, and at first he seems to sheepishly downplay his importance and his heroism when a flight attendant offers him flattery.

However, things quickly turn south for Sully as soon as the real captain (Alec Baldwin) shows up. Once he finds out that he's not actually the captain of this specific flight, his ego gets the better of him and he constantly undermines the authority of the actual pilot. Eventually it gets to the point where he speaks over the captain on the plane's loudspeakers, and even tries to physically knock the plane off course in order to take control. From beginning to end, it's comedy gold.

The simplest Saturday Night Live sketches often provide some of the best laughs, and this is one of the simplest skits in recent memory. Tom Hanks and Alec Baldwin (uncharacteristically playing the straight man of the sketch) do a phenomenal job riffing with one another, and consistently deliver laughs. Much of this has to do with the fact that both of them are incredibly experienced on the sketch comedy series. Tom Hanks has hosted SNL nine times over the course of his career, and Alec Baldwin has hosted the show a staggering sixteen times; they know how a Saturday Night Live sketch should pan out, and they definitely don't need any of the cast members to appear alongside them and help move things along.

If you've seen Sully (or if you're simply familiar with The Miracle on the Hudson) then this sketch will almost certainly make you laugh. It's a pitch perfect skit that pokes fun at a real life incident without ever feeling malicious or mean-spirited. A major component of Saturday Night Live's success is that the show has the ability to skewer relevant issues in a timely matter, and it completely nails this parody of Sully.
