NBC is swapping time slots for The Voice and The Village on Tuesdays for the remainder of the season in an effort to shore up both shows.

Starting next Tuesday and running through their respective season finales on May 21, The Village will lead off NBC's schedule at 8 p.m. ET/PT, followed by The Voice's results show at 9 p.m. New Amsterdam is staying in place at 10 p.m.

The move comes after both The Voice and The Village hit lows in Tuesday's ratings. The Voice had its worst adults 18-49 rating ever for a regular episode with a 1.0, and The Village — which was intended to slide seamlessly into the 9 o'clock spot after This Is Us ended its season — fell to 0.6, the lowest rating of its five weeks on the air.

The soft ratings for The Village have also negatively impacted New Amsterdam, which has hit consecutive lows in the 18-49 demo (0.7 and 0.6) the past two weeks.

TV usage is generally higher in the 9 p.m. hour than it is at 8 p.m., so putting The Voice at the later time may bump its same-day ratings up a little. Boost or not, the move will almost certainly feed a bigger audience into New Amsterdam at 10 p.m. The Village, meanwhile, gets a substantial amount of its audience from delayed viewing (it grows from an average 0.7 demo rating to 1.2 after a week) and thus may not suffer much in an earlier, less-trafficked spot.

But for a show that was picked to take over for This Is Us — and given a three-week run following the hit series in an effort to launch it — The Village's numbers so far have been underwhelming. That 1.2 seven-day average among adults 18-49 is tied for ninth among the 13 dramas NBC has aired this season and is less than a third of the 3.8 for This Is Us.

The network found itself in a similar situation last season, when Rise was unable to hold onto the This Is Us audience in the spring. It was canceled after one season.
