Pretending I’m a Superman explores the story of how skateboarding became mainstream and how it has stayed that way ever since, largely thanks to the introduction of the X-Games as well as the release of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater in August 1999. The first installment in the famed video game series shocked both the gaming and skating industries, selling nine million copies upon release. Subsequently, a sizable portion of Pretending I’m a Superman is dedicated to the skaters and developers who worked together to create the best-selling game.

While delving into the development of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, the documentary also takes a look at the world of skateboarding today. The story is told through never-before-seen interviews with influential skaters such as Eric Koston, Steve Caballero, Rodney Mullen, and Tony Hawk.
