Tommy Wirkola Won’t Direct ‘Hansel and Gretel 2′

In just a few weeks we’ll be seeing the US release of Tommy Wirkola’s “Dead Snow 2: Red vs Dead” when it hits theaters and various streaming services on October 10th.

After which, it was believed that Wirkola would be returning to work on another sequel “Hansel and Gretel 2″, however, that doesn’t appear to be the case anymore.

Fangoria, in an upcoming interview, has learned that Tommy is stepping back from the sequel in order to pursue other projects. It would seem that the director doesn’t want to be tied down to another sequel so soon after finishing one.

Here’s what he had to tell the magazine:

I’ve just decided to not direct HANSEL & GRETEL 2 . . . I have been lately attached to a few more things, it’s just a matter of time and priorities. I did DEAD SNOW 1, then HANSEL & GRETEL 1, and then DEAD SNOW 2. I want to do something a little bit different now and not just do sequels. I did write the script and I hope to be involved in it. But yeah, I won’t be directing it.
